As I sit here in my apartment, overlooking the below busy shops, wondering what to write about next. Should I try for a novel, or maybe another short story? These thing I ask myself what makes a great story and will people enjoy reading it.
I sit looking aimlessly out the window, while the house cleaner mops the floor around my feet. It brings me back into the room as she gives me a little nudge to move them out of the way. I smile at her and apologise for being in the way. Lauretta had been cleaning my apartment for several years now and she also went to the same college as me. She still has a few years to go on her degree, and cleans part-time to pay her way. She has the most dark brown chestnut coloured hair and always wears it down. She complains that she thinks her ears stick out to much and tries to cover it with her long, thick smooth looking hair. I walk over to the desk, and take my seat in front of my laptop...........What to write about......

After I graduated high school in 2012, I went straight to college, where I continued to pursue writing. High school was where I discovered an interest in history, studying history opened a new door in literature for me, I began reading historical novels and biographies. I ended up getting a master's degree in history with a minor in journalism. Learning about people from history and what their daily lives were like amazes me. I am absolutely entranced by the way authors vividly describe things like the different foods served in a meal or the colour and geography of the landscape around the characters. I find that I never tire of reading because I just keep finding new authors and titles that I love. Over the years I picked up other hobbies such as skateboarding, which I am very good at, but to this day books are still my first love. No matter where I go or what I do I always have a book with me, as well as a notebook for writing. I still write and continue to work on writing a book. It seems this will be a lifelong adventure that will hopefully end someday with my being a published author.
Sometimes, I doubted my writing skills and thought maybe I’m not cut out to become an author. One day I read about J.K. Rowling being refused by publishers for years. Yet I knew she hadn’t given up and look what happened with her books. I started writing again, and I quickly discovered that I had learned more than I realised in those boring English classes. All of a sudden I could take an everyday item and give it details with words. I think maybe I just needed the right inspiration to drive me to write in a way I hadn’t tried before. Of course, this led to me reading all of J.K. Rowling's books for the third or fourth time, but I loved every second I spent in those pages. I wanted to learn more about books, so I volunteered at the school library during high school. The librarian was such a sweet woman, she introduced me to many of the classics like Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird and Jane Eyre. My love of books grew with each book I picked up and read I devoured the words as if I was a starving man.
